Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
WHAT IS A KALEIDOSCOPE?
"Observation of Beautiful Forms"
ka·lei·do·scope | \kə-ˈlī-də-ˌskōp \
The word kaleidoscope is derived from the Ancient Greek καλός (kalos), “beautiful, beauty”, εἶδος (eidos), “that which is seen: form, shape” and σκοπέω (skopeō), “to look to, to examine”, hence “observation of beautiful forms.”
A kaleidoscope is made of two or more mirrors or reflective surfaces positioned at an angle to each other, usually forming a V-shape or a triangle. The case is the body surrounding the mirror assembly. A collection of objects is positioned at one end of the mirrors, and there’s an eyehole at the other end.
What you see when you look through that eyehole will never be exactly the same twice. While the container holding the objects is often as large as the kaleidoscope tube, only the portion of the objects that fall within the space of the triangle within the object holder is reflected.
WHY OWN A KALEIDOSCOPE?
The REAL VALUE of a kaleidoscope is that they refresh and renew your spirit through relaxing and calming the visual space you choose to spend a few minutes within. As an added benefit, kaleidoscopes stimulate and exercise imagination, enhance meditative effects, and inspire communication and serenity. It is no coincidence that perfect mirrors are at the heart of every kaleidoscope
A kaleidoscope is unique in the art world because it invites the viewer into the creative process, without whom there would be no infinite variety of beauty and fantasy.
By simply rotating the object cell you enter a world of enchanting imagery - one full an orchestra of color within a capsule.
WHAT IS THE CELL OR OBJECT CASE/CHAMBER?
A cell is an enclosed object case and usually contains loose objects that move about within the chamber. Some artists have created cells that can be opened and the viewer can add or remove objects but most cells are sealed.
Cells can be liquid filled or dry. Liquid cells allow for slower and more flowing motion in the image while dry cells shift quickly but remain stationary until they are moved again. Several artists have developed cells that have been called pucks because they are shaped like a hockey puck.
Cells can be any size or shape and are only limited by the imagination of the artist. Some cells are fixed to the kaleidoscope so that the whole kaleidoscope needs to be moved or shaken. Other cell scopes allow for the cell to move independently of the body of the kaleidoscope by turning the cell. A special type of cell kaleidoscope uses a polarized lens to create a rainbow effect within the chamber.
HOW DO I PUT MY TREASURES INSIDE THE OBJECT CHAMBER?
The object cell case is easily opened with a twist top. Instructions are included in every shipment.
